The floating sky port was an excellent place to aid in the colonization of new worlds.

Utilizing inertial propulsion, these ports could hover continuously and move to different areas as needed.

 They offered a safe refuge from most hostile influences of an alien planet and a place of supply and repair

 for the military, as patrols were often needed to ward off pirates on newly colonized planets.

The skyport shown above was a primary residence of  colonists on Calidus that provided safe haven

from the numerous hostile life forms on it.
