The Santa Maria was a conversion from a large RK Space Systems sublight transport to a trans-light exploration vessel.

One of the more notable features are the large TL drive modules attached to the sides, even though it was not

a pure exploration design, it served as a workhorse for early exploration since any advances in FTL propulsion

could be easily outfitted to these ships because of the easily detachable propulsion modules. The Santa Maria class

ships survived longer than many highly specialized ships of the time because of its excellent adaptable design.
